Assorted Collection 50 - Various Metal Artists

Thick as blood and heavy as iron, February brought us some impressive new bands and fresh releases from reputable and infamous metal labels of the realm of heavy kick ass-distorted-ear-shattering music! We are left with a feeling of satisfaction and expectation of what is coming ahead in the following month.

We have already started scouting bands for the best of the year show, and have included in this Podcast some candidates that you should definitely look up. Artists that will surely stir some waves for the rest of the year will be THEY MIGHT BE ZOMBIES (US) and their much anticipated debut, GRENOUER (Russia) and their album BLOOD ON THE FACE, UNDECIMBER (Sweden) with their Feb 14 mega goth record DEAD INSIDE; and extreme metallers NOCTEM's March 3 release for the album EXILIUM; featured a brand new track from the album because you heard it here first! We will definitely have a full review of the album, but in the mean time, check out our interview with EXO for the previous record by clicking here

Thrashers always invited over to hang and piss in our toilet! NAPALM STORM is a vicious Spanish thrash band from Zaragoza, and they are featured with a track from their album HARMLESS CRUELTY; also to piss all over our religious neighbors' rug!

We have been inspired lately by fast music, booze, gorgon creatures and ramming devices; for instance, RAMMING SPEED! This is a killer band with a killer record called DOOMED TO DESTROY, DESTINED TO DIE and precisely that's how we begin this podcast; ramming one of their songs
into your ears!

Joey Jordison-did he quit Slipknot or not? Hmm...you have to listen to his latest musical creation called SCAR THE MARTYR. Jordison has stated that this band is everything he ever wanted in a band, musically. The song featured is pretty kick ass, and the record is not bad, that really depends whether or not SLIPKNOT will get off their maggot asses and put the masks on for another album!

So much hype has been stirred up by the most novel release from Valencia, Spain's extreme metallers NOCTEM. EXILIUM is ready for its official release this March 3 thru Art Gate Records that will also include the world premiere of a new music video. But of course, you already knew that, you have been tuning in to the Podcast. So, for being such a good listener of our humble metal show, we have another exclusive track from the album, Decrepit Human Kingdom, enjoy!

SAWTHIS is a modern thrash metal band  from Italy that has been abusing the live stages of Europe since  their first official release in 2003. The band has supported several international metal acts such as Lacuna Coil, Entombed, Sepultura, etc. Check out a track from the latest album YOUNIVERSE. *I honestly thought they were from Sweden; but that is not the case, and I'm not a redneck mormon missionary either.

It's time to officially welcome the label XTREEM MUSIC to the Podcast, and for the label's debut on the show we highlight two brutal acts. The first, PHOBOS PREACHER a band also from Zaragoza, Spain *I have just noticed that we have several Spanish bands on this show. The story behind this band is that it is a band made from the break up of two bands who merged to make a new project. After winning the Kolonorock
(Sancho Abarca, Zaragoza) battle of the bands in 2012 the band recorded their debut album HUMANOS under DOWNMUSIC/IZKAR PRODUCCIONES in 2013. Featured in this pod is the track "La Perdicion" or Perdition.

The second, are the French veterans of death metal MERCYLESS in existence since 1987. The band without a doubt are experienced veterans of brutality. They have been the support for international bands such as MORGOTH, TIAMAT, SAMAEL, UNLEASHED, CANNIBAL CORPSE, OBITUARY and even legendary band DEATH! The list goes on for these brutal masters. After almost 13 years into their hiatus the band regrouped and recorded a comeback record UNHOLY BLACK SPLENDOR under Trendkill Recordings in 2013. Check out the track God is Dreaming from this album in the
podcast.

Goth metallers UNDECIMBER are featured with another blood soaked track entitled Three Pages from Hell from the bands FEB 14 release, DEAD INSIDE available through DOWNFALL RECORDS. UNDECIMBER is a band you have got to get your vampire fangs into!

Inspired by the atmospheric sounds of bands such as Rammstein, Depeche Mode, Joy Division and Deathstars the band RUBLOOD make their industrial/goth/metal debut on the show. Featured the track Heart from the band's debut STAR VAMPIRE.

Viking metallers AMON AMARTH will drink with you in Valhalla and raise a glass to the fallen warriors of Norse mythology. In the podcast, the track Guardians of Asgaard from the album TWILIGHT OF THE THUNDER GOD, 2008.

Female fronted band CADAVERIA from Italy are featured with a track from their HORROR METAL, 2013 album available through BAKERTEAM RECORDS. In existence since 2003, the quintet have toured all over Italy, France, Mexico, Spain and Romania. Available now is the band's retrospective Double DVD entitled KARMA under SCARLET RECORDS.

Controversial pagan musician Varg Vikerness' project BURZUM is featured with a track from the 1996 release FILOSOFEM. Varg has stated in several interviews that he  does not agree of Burzum being labeled as "Black Metal". Varg prefers the term  Heavy Metal or better as "Scaldic Metal".  We would like to coin it as depressive shoe-gaze black metal, or something. You make up your own labels, don't copy ours!

Critics say that NORMA JEAN's new record WRONGDOERS, 2013 as setting themselves apart.  The
record sounds like a debut, hits like a veteran and commands like a champion.  We would agree that the band keeps on sounding novel, and that they keep on being magnets to your ears. Check out the track Hive Minds in the podcast.

Relapse Records present in this podcast the band WEEKEND NACHOS from Chicago. I would like to share with you a funny story. I was making the playlist for the podcast, and my girl was doing her college work while listening to how I was picking the bands for the show. I usually start by just throwing songs into a Winamp playlist, and usually play the songs in different order arrangements to feel which song would sound better after the other. The thing is that when I hear her make certain remarks that sometimes surprise her
while listening to my playlist; I would usually think, "hey, that works!", and save the particular order of the songs. Since she is caught up with her college work, a reaction to a song being played that interrupts her mindset or mood is when I know the song progression is good. Well, her remark when hearing the song from WEEKEND NACHOS was, "hey, that sounds weird, what is the name of the band?". I promptly quoted, "WEEKEND NACHOS", she replied, "huh, what did you say, how can such great music have a stupid name like that, let me guess; they're Americans, right?" I answered, "yup, you got it honey." She replied, "Ha! I knew it. It had to be some spoiled dumb Americans who can call themselves NACHOS!" She continued with her argument, "They might as well call themselves TACO BELL or some sh-t like that! What a lack of creativity, they had to be Americans!" She concluded, "Naw, I'm not interested anymore, stop playing such stupid bands on your show!" I tried to justify the name by adding that they were signed to RELAPSE, and that they had severed heads on their album covers, and Freddy Kruger mascots on their merchandise. I even tried to defend the WEEKEND NACHOS' name by stating to her that they were genre ground breakers; powerviolence/sludge metal. In the end, nothing I would say to defend the NACHOS gave them an inch of metal respect in my girl's feminine metal mindset. I will conclude stating that metal, and all the ape sh-t crazy antics that we men consider as cool is thanks to testosterone! Alas, check out the song Satan Sucker from WEEKEND NACHOS from their Relapse Records release, STILL.

So here you have it. Another assorted collection of brutal sounds, novel releases, and Taco Bell induced metal to wrap up the month of February; good riddance and enjoy!

Episode Description:
Choose your weapon! No matter the size, all these bands are deadly! In this episode, we curate for you a collection of fine cuts from the butcher's block; bloody new sounds that will delight your taste for metal.

The names SOULFLY, CARCASS and SODOM are household names you commonly associate with aggressiveness and perseverance. Relentless as they are, they continue to release great albums; and believe me, these are great albums! I can’t say enough about the new SAVAGES album from SOULFLY. Max is to metal what oxygen is to fire! Cavalera fires it up again, and this time with key players, Mark Rizzo on the shred, Tony Campos on the bass, backup vocals and Spanish lyrics, and Max’s son Zyon Cavalera making his debut on the drums. This is one of Cavalera’s most solid line-ups, and so far, metal surely is in Cavalera’s family because his son nailed it on the album. Track to check out on the podcast from the album is “Master of Savagery”.

German thrash metal legends SODOM continue to perfect the art of thrash-war. EPITOME OF TORTURE is the band’s 14th studio album, and they haven’t swayed from their belligerent path  of war induced thrash metal. Track to look out for is “Into the Skies of War”-man, what a hell of a track!

After almost 17 years without a new record under the name CARCASS, what would you expect a band to sound like? Answer: precise; precise as surgical equipment. CARCASS returns with SURGICAL STEEL; a long awaited release for the fans of the band, and worth the wait. You got to listen to this album! We focus your attention for this podcast on the track “Congealed Clot of Blood”-it’s just exquisite metal!

Bands to look out for in 2014!

We debut on the show four outstanding bands that really caught our attention; THEY MIGHT BE ZOMBIES (US), GRENOUER (Russia), VICTORIOUS (Germany), and COLD CELL (Switzerland).

First, we have the band THEY MIGHT BE ZOMBIES from Miami, FL. Without a doubt a band that stood out with a fresh sound of unique extreme metal combined with a talented singer make for a sound that differentiates them from the rest. Just having released their debut EP of the same name, THEY MIGHT BE ZOMBIES is a band to look out for in 2014. Currently, members of the band are working in the studio putting together 6 more tracks for the full length album. Check out the song in the podcast called "A Dying Voice", and don't forget to look up the video of the same name; some real sick sh-t!

Also, another band to glue your ears to in 2014 is the Russian band from St. Petersburg called GRENOUER. In existence since 1992, this band now with their seventh studio album BLOOD ON YOUR FACE *2013, have concocted a blend of modern heavy guitar sounds with melodic vocalizations. Great vocal hooks and heavy sections within the songs get you into their music real quick. A recommended artist for you to discover this year. Check out the song "Brian Fever" featured in the show and be sure to check out the video for the same song; what production! I'm forever astounded with what independent artists do nowadays! Sometimes they put out better productions then some of the already conventional bands out there. GRENOUER is definitely a band to get into this year!

Another new artist to look out for in 2014 is VICTORIUS. This is a  power metal from Leipzig, Germany. The band make their debut on the show with a thrilling vocal soaring, guitar shred of a track called "Under Burning Skies" from their album THE AWAKENING. If this is but a taste of what this band can offer, you better damn well check out the complete record for yourself! They got what it takes to rise, and we'll have them on the radar for the rest of the year.

Repulsion for society, abomination for the modern world expressed through the sensibilities of black metal. From Switzerland comes the band COLD CELL, a band that should be in your collection of music that is dark and obscure. We highlight the song "Generation Abomination" from the album of the same title in the podcast. A delicate sample of misanthropic flavor that will leave your mouth bitter for more! COLD CELL is an artist to have in the "f-ck the world" playlist for 2014.

It's new, and it’s a premiere! Take a first look at some new releases for January and February.

EKTOMORF extreme metallers from Hungary release this Jan 31 their ninth studio album entitled RETRIBUTION to the world out on AFM records. "Face your Fear" is another savage track characterized by Zultan Farks -rip your head off- vocals, together with the punishing EKTO-groove make one violent track.

DYNAHEAD progressive metal band from Brazil releases the follow up to their conceptual album CHORDATA I, naturally titled CHORDATA II,  released January 20. These two albums are an impressive feat of eclectic musicality. DYNAHEAD has no limits to explore and experiment moving evermore into the djent field of metal. CHORDATA II picks up where CHORDATA I left off starting from tracks 10 to 14. That’s right, five songs! But keep in mind that track 11 KODE is a 20 min opus-take that prime time rock radio!  Pay attention to the featured track LEGIS, and listen carefully to the wind instruments.

UNDECIMBER, goth metallers from Sweden, premiere a track from their soon to released album, DEAD INSIDE, available February 12 through Downfall records. Whether you are into goth metal or not, it won’t matter, because these guys are not a softy-sounding band. The heavy guitar and bass riffs drive the majority of the tracks. The low vocalizations and hooks of
the songs will sink their teeth into your ears. The album has  true heaviness and character, and we believe that most metalheads will find the music appealing to head bang. Certainly, pick up or check it out for yourself, and sink your teeth into the track “Fatal Kiss”-just love the sound of that guitar!

Fast, heavy and brutal! That’s the way we like it around here. DEATH RAY VISION a project band featuring members of Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall and Cannae have teamed together put out a thrash-hardcore record entitled WE AIN'T LEAVIN’ TILL YOU’RE BLEEDIN’ through Bullet Tooth records. Honestly, we haven’t been able to put down this record since we got the press kit. There are many tracks to choose from the record, but sample “F-ck Compromise” as our podcast opener, and look it up!

Brutalness with masks! Yea, we just dig heavy bands  that look scary, and better yet, sound brutal as well. This is the case of  death metal band TENNESSEE MURDER CLUB.  The band has made its sophomore release HUMAN HARVEST through Nail Jar records. Ever since the press kit was received and the first songs were played, we got the feeling that this album was huge. Form the pushing onslaught of sonic terror we have chosen the track “The Pact” as sampler for the album.

Also, added to the brutal mix we present the punk-grind band CHESTBURSTER and the track “They’re Coming out the Goddamn Walls!” from their album THE ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE IN GRUELING TERROR” released via Nail Jar records. In a world of over produced metal, it’s nice to listen to some raw sounding basic spit-on-the-mic metal.

The Sickening sounds of an EP called IN DEATH (Sepulchro Voice records) from the band INVIDIOUS have slithered their way into the podcast. The EP is dark and mysterious similar to the way it  arrived in our hands. We are still trying to ingest the 4 tracks on the EP, but managed to regurgitate the track “Throne of Death” for your listening enjoyment.

“Father will you pray for me? Yes, my child. Father will you f*ck me?”  Listen to “Church of Deviance”  from SPAWN OF POSSESSION’s 2003 debut CABINET. Experience the unholiness of brutal Swedish death metal.

There’s a point of progressive experimentation in the show when we highlight the band SIKTH and a song from their second album DEATH OF A DEAD DAY (2006). There are rumors that the band is getting back together; I certainly hope they do!  “Bland Street Bloom” is  pure ear-candy!

Among this progressive experimentation we arrive at the genre coined by its founders MUSICBLOOD as heavy deconstructed rock.  A duo of musician that have gone through several musical metamorphosis; and have gathered immense music knowledge from their past experiences in other bands. So that now, they arrive at a point  in their artistic lives where all that matters truly is self expression. Ever since we heard their music in 2007, MUSICBLOOD has been a changing animal. The song showcased “Unison” could be the trademark style of the band, but with this band, you never know what they might come up with next!

Finally, on the progressive block is the band BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME and a song from their 2012 album THE PARALLAX II FUTURE SEQUENCE. Personally, we were hesitant to digest this album that took us almost two years to really sit down and play from beginning to the end. So here’s the track that stood out “Astral Body” .

There it is. An assorted show that will get you through your miserable week of overtime, getting late to work; stuck in traffic; late homework and warm beer (If you are lucky!) So, what else can you do then crank this f-cker up!
